I do what Adam suggested. When I am working in a module, I use Plum to prototype the forms, get fields ordered and named the way I want, etc., and generate. Once I determine that I need to make changes that will not round trip back into the IDE, I lock the form in the IDE so I don't write over it, and then check it in to VSS. At the point when the 'basic' forms in the module are complete, I lock the module in the IDE. If I need to add something that is easier to use the IDE for, I just create a new form and name it something different, build and generate, and then copy the code from one to another.

I never totally regenerate a site. I also don't have Plum generate all the forms for my tables at one time, unless it is a real simple app, or I need to show a prototype to a client quickly. I have found that adding modules one at a time and adding forms that way makes it easier to work with. It is really neat to see Plum generate an app for a 50 table database, but it is overwhelming to work with IMO.

Did I answer your question?

I agree version control is a no brainier, but how does that resolve the
question I had? Are you using labels in VSS to indicate which files you
manually changed versus changing through the interface?

I have been using version control software for about the past 4 months
with Plum integrated into Homesite + and DW, and it works very well. I
use VSS just because I have it and use it in in other development. I
work highly recommend versioning software if you begin making changes to
the custom tags or components. I am working on a project right now
where I have made extensive changes, and I check everything back in at
the end of the day.

I also have a little $35 backup utility called Backup Plus which sits in
the system tray and backs up my web projects and the VSS database to a
NAS storage drive automatically while I am eating dinner (it helps if
you are on somewhat of a regular dinner schedule ;)

I have been sleeping better at night since I began doing this :)

Since PLUM is not a round trip tool, and I realize at some point in the
process we need to divorce the project from the tool, is there any way
now to protect changes I made or make copies of them giving me the
option to copy them back in after site regeneration?

Is Round trip a planned option for future versions Adam?

Thanks,

P.S. There was a post in CF-Talk the other day asking what was going on
with PLUM in case you did not see it.
