On pc class hardware only suspend to ram works. Sparc workstations support only suspend to disk. The situation should be improving in the future, but no specific timeline yet.
This all depends on the entire combination of mobo, chipset, and devices (especially framebuffer). Stock Sun workstations are generally supported, as well as toshiba laptops sold with OpenSolaris preinstalled.
