It's obvious that your solution is more intutive for you, as you wrote the code. For an end user, editing a file in /etc is non-intuitive in either case. The difference is, that for hal exists a standardised format and lots of documentation. That's why I prefer this solution. If creating the fdi file for your machine is too complicated (which I don't deny), then we could wrap this into a small helper tool (just like hal-disable-polling). Let's hear, what others think about this issue.
