If you have hourly counters, then you can do some fancy grouping in
PostgresSQL/MySQL to do this.
The easiest thing would probably be to create a small lookup table with
24 records, flagging an hour as day or night. Then the reports can join
the data in the hourly accounting table joined with the lookup table,
and do a master group by day/night per user.
