well, the error tells you that the web server user ('www-data', 'apache'
or similar) is not allowed to write to /var/www/ which is normal.
Instead of setting this directory writable, just follow the docs for
installation and set the value for your PHP error log accordingly (the
pm_debug.log is written to the same directory). Just search the page for
the string "IMPORTANT!!!"
