I wouldn't really say that p.mapper 5 is unstable. It's just not as mature, tested, and complete as version 4. But most parts work fine. And finally the worst remaining parts of the code like the queries have been completely rewritten :-) And quite some small detail improvements that I already nearly don't remember any more... Mainly the PDF printing and printing of "external" tiled layers (like OSM) is missing, which is a bit more to implement. For usage by not-so-skilled people a full documentation would be necessary, but who's gonna write it?
For me p.mapper is more sort of a hobby from which I take parts I need for my work. Main reason for me to develop p.mapper 5 was that I needed a mapping library that directly supports OSM and other tiled layers (google, bing). So I used p.mapper 5 as a vehicle to understand more in-depth how OpenLayers is working and to find workarounds for it's oddities... this is mostly done now. Future developments and releases also depend if there is more active support and feedback. This so far was close to null... Nearly the only person contributing to p.mapper is Thomas, and his interest in version 5 seems to be limited, which I understand because his plugins are set up for p.mapper 4. Updating them for p.mapper 5 would often be quite some work to be done. Maybe it's all a bit of the chicken-or-the-egg sort of problem ;-) /armin On 04/12/2012 18:06, Chris Jackson wrote: > Hi all, > > On that note, cue the question....
