And how about defining your own "boundary" rule, which will do nothing
at all, say as rule0 : >links
and then your other rules relativ to this?
rule1 : >rule0
rule2 : >rule0

Or/and make the disabling of a markup rule so that the disabled
markup is still there, but does nothing?
