Actually, the need for linebreaks in addresses and poetry is exactly
what led me to using '\\' to mean 'line break' -- it's visually pretty
clean.
IIRC, I suggested it from what I've seen in LaTeX, so that should get its
share of the blame. OTOH, LaTeX might have been using it for poems :-)
