Thanks Ben, Tegan for the help on this. One other trick I noticed mentioned in another thread is use of $EnablePostAuthorRequired . Haven't figured out which of the approaches mentioned I want to do - the membership/log-in one has some advantages, at least as an option, though I've tired of running into it on so many sites.
Will have to change another behavior perhaps - the default is Profiles/Profiles rather than Profiles/HomePage - though perhaps it doesn;t matter.
