That would be the more compliant solution, as the link appearing to point to an author's Profile is using MakePageNamePatterns as well. And not only spaces will be removed, but also other characters not compliant with page names. Is there a lot of overhead involved processing these markup expressions on a forum page you think? There will be around 4 markup expressions per post to evaluate, so it could go easily into the hundreds.
