I would like either of these options.
At the moment I edited the "Please Enter Valid input" message to suit
my needs within
fox.php itself but would very much prefer a "front of wiki" approach.

I have not made this configurable. It probably should.
You can suppress the messages from individual input field checks
with
list=nocheck, but you cannot do the opposite:
suppress the general message.
Perhaps an option list=checkonly ?
