I've put together another example here: http://www.pmwiki.org/wiki/Cookbook/WikiShExamples#StaticPageListB It does pretty much exactly what I *think* you want to do and gives instructions on how to generate the (:pagelist ...:) based on the starting letter of the title. Getting it to show in a popup is something I've watched the discussion with interest but haven't had opportunity to play with, so you can work with that yourself or get help from others on the list here.
