A workaround could be to use wiki pages as part of the template, i.e. the Flexi skin. If you need to show a PTV in a header, for example, instead of coding the header specifics into the .tmpl file, you use the .tmpl file to display a page called Template.Header (for example, with the size and location of Template.Header being controlled by CSS), then you can use any wiki markup in the header.
