Yes, htpasswd is used by Apache for "Basic Authentication" (BA), but 
PmWiki can use htpasswd formatted files for AuthUser authentication.

This makes no change to the Apache install, and Apache knows nothing 
about it.

Conversely, if you have Apache configured with BA, you can have PmWiki 
reuse the Apache htpasswd files.
