Drat, the lines were mangled, and just after posting I noticed a bug
in the above. So here's a correct version using {(sum)}, but you'll
need to remove the newlines before each (:template ...:):
[[#datasum]]
(:template first:){(sum
(:template each:) {=$:DATA}
(:template last:) )}
[[#datasumend]]
