It may be some aggressive filter of mod_security: http://www.pmwiki.org/wiki/PmWiki/Troubleshooting#mod_security
If this is indeed mod_security, and your hosting provider cannot disable it, there is not much PmWiki could do. You could only escape the strings like this "sel[==]ect".
