Try using the HTML entity for "|", ie. "|"
Oh, it appears that some e-mail clients and mailing list archives render
the character instead of the entity. The entity for displaying the
vertical character | in XML is written with these characters:
& # 1 2 4 ; (remove the spaces between them)
Alternatively, you may search the documentation of your hosting provider
on how to enable or disable the security modules - sometimes it is
possible.

I am guessing your installation has the mod_security or something
similar enabled. Try using the HTML entity for "|", ie. "|" and
see if it can be posted and saved.
People reading your page will see "|" and can copy the code, it will
work fine when pasted to a terminal.

When I edit a page in pmwiki and I put the following four character
string
'" | ' (double-quote, space, vert-bar, space)... when I click save I
get a
"The Connection Was Reset" message. I also tried pasting within a
[= =]
and it make no difference, still crashing. Each character on it's own
does
not cause problems.
Any idea why this could be happening?
PS. This sequence of characters pops up a lot when documenting bash
commands... that is why I care!
Thanks,
