Hank - I saw the essay on George Bush and Civil Liberties in the
articles Archives, and it reminded me of the column I penned the day after
43's state of the union. Thought you might be interested. ... Matt
This ran the day after Bush's first state of the union address but is
still appropriate for repeating here. Nothing has changed. There is now
concern that soldiers are not treating Iraqi prisoners correctly. This has
been going on since bush started his wars. It goes on at Guantanamo, in
Afhganistan (where there have been several reported deaths of prisoners)
and it has been going on regularly in Iraq. Now all of a sudden it is
news. That is the only surprise. Nothing else. And the buck stops at the
top -- the very top......Hank
