We Broke it Because We Occupy it..

I don't know how many of you watch IMUS IN THE MORNING on MSNBC. I usually
didn't, but lately have been given to turning on that station while I'm
out here in my computer room (which is more of a shed) and this morning
watched/listened to this idiot, J.D. Hayworth, the Republican Senator from
Arizona being interviewed, which on the Imus show is more of a
conversation. How can the people of Arizona be such idiots to vote for
this guy? He is really off in RIGHT field. He (and other Republicans - and
some Democrats) won't let up on the issue of the medals; that is, that
John Kerry didn't throw his own medals over the fence at a Demo, a
demonstration against the war, but threw someone elses medals over the
wall. At least he had medals. And he earned them. And others handed him
medals to throw because he was their spokesman -- and he did throw them
(and like he says he didn't have his own medals with him or would have
thrown them also.).. Let me see if I can say this right so everyone can
understand it. IT WAS SYMBOLIC. It didn't matter. When draftees burned
their draft cards, that didn't mean they would not be drafted or still be
registered for the draft. IT WAS SYMBOLIC. Throwing medals away was a
statement but it didn't mean the medals were not earned (by the military's
standards) and a soldier could go to any Army/Navy surplus store and buy
more medals to replace the ones he may have lost or thrown away. IT WAS
THE SYMBOLISM that counted and Kerry provided the symbolism for those who
objected to the hateful and very immoral and disgraceful war against the
Vietnamese.

And Imus asked Hayworth if he ever served in the military and of course he
didn't and Imus, who sometimes says the right things, asked him why so
many in the Bush administration didn't serve and these are exactly the
ones who are impugning the patriotism and service of those who did and he
got the usual slippery answer where Hayworth said, but he was only 8 years
old during the Vietnam War.

Well he could have enlisted when he was 18 or something and there have
been other conflicts. NOT that anyone should be as foolish as I was or
anyone who thinks fighting is a measure of patriotism or ever needed to
protect rich men's (and now there are women too) investments in foreign
countries.

All these accusations about medals and whether or not they were John
Kerry's medals or someone elses is a diversion from the real issues and I
assume we, here, all know that. I know you do. It is just exactly like
Bush, who used the same divisive canditorial bait and switch tactics and
when he lied in his campaign against McCain in South Carolina -- and Max
McCleland in Georgia and his avoidance when confronted with the truth in
his three debates with Gore. This is typical of George Bush and all those
he has around him. It is true about most Republicans. It should have been
enough for McCain to confront Bush after the election and work against
him. It should really be enough for McCain to leave the Republican party
(but McCain is really a Republican).

Anyway, the whole thing makes me want to puke. I hear people questioning
Kerry's positions and loyalty and MOST are basing any criticism they have
on the NEGATIVE ADS, which has always been typical of Bush, which they
have seen from Republicans but especially approved and paid for by George
W. Bush. I can't believe Democrats can take Republican arguments and
believe them given the history of Republicans and particularly given the
history of that liar in the White House right now who never won the
election and can only win this one if Democrats and the American people
don't wake up to the fact that they are victims of the biggest scam in
modern day history.

WAKE UP!

As I have stated before, first we defeat the Republicans and then we ALL
on the left remind Kerry of the "old" Kerry and like all the arguments in
that excellent article by Howard Zinn (from The Progressive),
bring the troops home. We broke it only because we occupy it. We are not
the Iraqis and we cannot determine the direction that country takes. We
have never been able to do that in the entire history of U.S. involvement
in other countries --- not for 200 years, so lets just get the hell out.
It was a mistake to begin with. Now it will be a bigger mistake to
continue killing Iraqis and to lose anymore Americans.
