Retiring the Republicans
I have never seen a campaign like this one. Or, maybe I never really paid
as much attention to it because I never voted for the winner. Usually I
voted for Gus Hall, who was the Secretary of the Communist Party and it
was a protest vote. In the last election I voted for Nader, but this time
I don't have the luxury of throwing my vote away -- even though I am not
happy about the choices. I can't feel completely comfortable with a
president who talks about "staying the course" with this war. I like the
old Kerry, the one who objected to the Vietnam War. Maybe the old Kerry is
still in there somewhere?
George Bush has slashed benefits for veterans and as a client of the VA
system I've experienced those cuts and I have to support someone who
relates to veterans, as I think Kerry will do, as Kerry has said he would
do - and make essential changes in policy and funding. I have to also
support someone who is concerned about the environment and health care and
jobs and the Democrats offer the choice to continue to support social
welfare programs and civil rights. (See the Kerry website for details -
http://votejohnkerry.com).. So while Kerry isn't perfect he is a whole lot
better than Bush and it is imperative to get rid fo the
"profits-before-people" Republicans.
A lot of people do like George Bush. They think he is a regular guy. I
think some actually relate to his bungling misuse of language, grammatical
errors, and averageness. I don't want "average" to be in charge or have
his finger on the nuclear trigger. I want someone I know is smarter than
I am and I don't think he is. I want someone who has the capacity to
think about things and not to be impulsive and I don't think George has
any of those attributes. I think George is pathological; he likes to hurt
people.
The campaign to malign John Kerry reminds me of the tactics used against
William Clinton. They're at it again. It is getting down and dirty and it
is dishonorable.
The anti-Kerry attack is being financed by Republicans. Kerry tries to
stay above all of it and there are answers to their charges on his
website. I don't know if it is wise not to answer them, but it probably is
better to let others do it. It does show that Kerry cares about things
that matter and these despictable attacks really don't matter. They're
lies and those doing the lying are being discredited. His commanding
officer who said Kerry was unfit apologized and said his remarks were a
mistake. The doctor who said he treated Kerry never did. The sad part of
all this is it is still being repeated on conservative talk shows and the
lies takes a life of it's own. Liberal radio (AirAmerica) has been

Twelve of the 13 who served with Kerry in Swift Boats are actively
supporting John Kerry.
"Specifically, the ad claims that Kerry lied about the actions that led
to his Bronze Star. Former Green Beret and lifelong Republican Jim
Rassman, though, says Kerry saved his life that day. Rassman called

The anti-Kerry veterans' group was founded by John E. O'Neill, a Vietnam
veteran who the Nixon administration got to counter Kerry's anti-Vietnam
activism in 1971 -- and he is still at it. And the major financial backers
are all Texas Republican contributors. One of them, Houston home builder
Bob J. Perry, donated more than $5 million in the past four years to
conservative candidates.
We must elect George Bush and then we can build a viable people's party,
but first we must retire the Republicans.
