Rome, 5 July (AKI) - Documentaries are key in understanding different
cultures, said Thursday Rubino Rubini presenting the second edition of the
festival 'Sole e Luna Doc Fest' of which he is artistic director. The festival
featuring documentaries on the Mediterranean and Islam will take place on 22-29
July in Palermo, Sicily. In a press conference at the Rome headquarters of
Adnkronos news agency, Rubini stressed documentaries are a low cost and simple
language through which people can communicate, "tools of freedom."
Rubini praised the group of Iraqi filmmakers and the joint "impossible
project of the film we have made in Iraq with Iraqi troops." The movie, Rubini
told Adnkronos International (AKI), "was made by Iraqi troupes who filmed
during the day while at night we selected images within Camp Mittica [in
Nassiriya] where the Italians were confined for security reasons."
The documentary which has come out of this project will be among the 36
shown in Palermo for the second annual edition of the festival.
Lucia Gotti Venturato, executive director of Doc Fest, told AKI that
among the festival's other initiatives will be a new training course organised
in cooperation with the university of Bologna and the realisation of short
films on immigration and detention centres for would-be immigrants in
cooperation with the local government of Sicily.
Adnkronos's communications division helped organise with the Italian
foreign ministry's Task Force Iraq the training of Iraqi filmmakers in
cooperation with the Doc Fest.
