Not arabs, Palestinians. Jerusalem, for one; the Hebrew made it
"great," but it was founded by Caananites. All of Israel's most ancient
cities predate the Hebrews, and there are many others that were
destroyed by invaders, one group of which were the Hebrews.
The arabs represent nothing more than another invading ethnicity, one
that clearly fails to anticipate Hebrews in Israel by at least a
thousand years, unless it is considered that both ethnicities derive
from the same Arabian Peninsula stock. Of course, it has been noted
that taken far enough back it might be claimed that we all are likely to
have at least some "common stock." The essential Hebrew and Arab
connection is, however, much closer than the Turk and Hebrew connection,
or Slav and Hebrew connection, or Ethiopian and Hebrew connection, etc.

There has been so much interbreeding in the Fertile Crescent and Arabian
Peninsula over the course of the past 12 millennia that all of the
indigenous groups are represented to some extent in all the others. To
a varying degrees, the ethnic associations are represented by choices
people have made, or have had forced on them, although in the majority
of cases those choices may have occurred far enough back in the past
that the memories are lost.

In other words, good arguments can be made that all semitic people have
as much right as any other group to more or less all of the Fertile
Crescent, and perhaps the entire Arabian Peninsula as well given enough
scope to the arguments being advanced. If the arguments are restricted
to the past 10 or 100 years, the relative strengths of the territorial
claims being discussed are a lot different than if the scope is taken to
be 1,000 years, or 4,000 as some would have it.

Not long ago i read in Haaretz about a popular idea, based in ancient
history, among the more aggressive Jews living in the West Bank (and
their supporters) that they use to claim, among other relatively remote
places, Baghdad as their rightful abode.

Sometime in the 800's the king of Kazan, which occupied roughly the same
territory as Ukraine does today, converted to Judaism and compelled his
people to do likewise. The traditional story is kind of interesting.
He had a contest of sorts among representatives of all the religions he
could think of. The idea was to see who could present the best case for
their philosophy. The Rabbis won. That surely had as much to do with
the Kazan king's personal disposition as anything else, but it's an
intriguing story just the same.

Hence, Ashkenazim are largely derived from individuals who converted to
Judaism either through inspired choice (no value judgments on the
inspiration assumed), or who succumbed while still living to royal
inspiration. After a few hundred years, in particular considering the
varied political fortunes of the territory, a considerable number of the
habitual residents became more closely associated by their shared
Judaism than anything else.

It is often noted by Israelis that their culture and polity is dominated
by the Ashkenazi, whose genetic claim to the Levant is far weaker than a
Palestinian's, or even a random Arab's if the type of arguments
presented by the more aggressive Jewish settlers are entertained.

This is where my story has to stop. The preceding paragraphs are based
on demonstrable history and physical evidence. Depending on persuasion,
different people can make or break their chosen cases with it. If
anyone were to ask my advice, i would encourage them to focus on means
of peacefully resolving any conflicts in the interests of insuring that
the venue survives the resolution process. Otherwise, what was the point?

In a more general sense, if we annihilate ourselves it doesn't matter
one way or the other who was "right." But whoever was "right," it
certainly wouldn't be the ones who facilitated the annihilation.

Peace,
