It's Independence Day. As we gather with friends and family to enjoy a (vegan) picnic in the park and a flashy fireworks display, let's recall for what our forefathers so arduously and selflessly fought. They drafted a Declaration of Independence that clearly states that there is no viable role in our political structure for tyrannical government. The executive branch embraces an elected President - not an absolute monarch or totalitarian dictator. The Constitution contains the Bill of Rights - an assemblage of purportedly irrevocable freedoms to be enjoyed and exercised by the people and honored and protected by the government. Let's think about how animals in circuses and rodeos, on factory and fur farms, in labs and shelters, and on the Arctic ice floes might feel about our rollicking glorification of "independence" and "freedom" while they languish in pain and despair - tortured and murdered for entertainment, the palate, fashion, fraudulent science, and industrial rendition. Let's think about another kind of rendition, alternatively called "extraordinary" or "extreme," which allows a President who perceives himself above Constitutional and international law to send "terror suspects" to foreign countries to be tortured and executed. Let's think about the Patriot and Animal Enterprise Protection Acts which seek to quash and punish the moral outrage experienced by animal rights activists who feel compelled to fight against injustice and tyranny - as did the very American Revolutionists whose efforts this holiday supposedly acknowledges and celebrates. Let's also think about the people of a sovereign nation - and our own armed forces - who are victims of what one clinical psychologist called government minds so disordered and criminal that he has never encountered their likenesses in his decades-long therapeutic practice. I wonder how the "three D's" (Dubya, Dick, and Don) will be spending this Fourth of July. No doubt tallying their war profits and chowing down on a juicy burger that was, just a few days before, a sloe-eyed bovine beauty. Hear that whirring sound? It's our forefathers spinning in their graves. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| pnews-news - (NEWS) - Send "subscribe" or "unsub" in subject to pnews-news-request(at)inyourface.info pnews-views - (VIEWS) - Send "subscribe" or "unsubscribe" as subject to pnews-views-request(at)inyourface.info |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| Everything begins at The Worm Hole: http://pnews.org/ ---------------- Don't Miss This: http://tinyurl.com/m2uah --------------------------------------------- NEVER pay for a podcast again: Check this out - http://tinyurl.com/mnr7r -----
