This is how we do it at the moment, and the link I mentioned in the OP does exactly that too. I would also like to know what you dislike about that method. To be honest, I'm a bit lost on how to integrate AJAX into werkzeug anyway, couldn't find good examples, so writing the upload polling myself really is out of the question, at least currently.
