Unfortunately I was not present at the talk and, if I use the PyCon site 
correctly, it's not presently possible to access the presentation material.

Of course you can define and use enums in wrong ways, in Python as in any 
other language; and this holds true for so many other language features and 
design patterns. But this should not rule any of them out: it's not because 
something is misused (by some) that should be avoided (by all).

I don't know how the "this" in Raymond Hettinger sentence  "we'll never 
actually do this in Python" relates to my case and my solution, if you can 
give me more details, I'll be glad to take them into account!
