I sent this email to Brad Appleton (listed as Author of Pod::Usage) and he suggested, as Pod::Usage is now part of core perl, that I ask you

TIA

Subject: Pod::Usage

Brad,

I'm writing a suite of Perl / DBI / DBD::xxx scripts that are to be run by normal users and superusers on Solaris systems.

I use Getopt::Long and, following details in the pod for &GetOptions, Pod::Usage which has your fingerprints on it.

I find that whilst the verbose usage text is output for ordinary users, the call to perldoc fails for superusers (with some mutter about tainting).

Q1: what is so dangerous about superusers running perldoc ? (given that there is a -U switch)
Q2: would it be sensible to add an option to pod2usage to request that perldoc be run using the -U switch ?
