You're quite right, perldoc should behave better in those cases.

Does anyone want to take over maintenance of perldoc and tend to things like this? It's a pretty undemanding program, I think, but one where a little interface insight/inspiration would go a long way. Sadly I just don't have the time these days to devote to it.

Perldoc was never really "mine" per se -- I merely took it up once and refactored its once-monolithic code. I never really understood its insides beyond what I needed for refactoring it. (Well, plus adding some minor sanity improvements when running under MSWin, from back when I still mostly developed under MSWin machines and was quite sensitive to things like the pager not being called properly because of a Unixism gone wrong, etc. etc.)
