Hmm. I have no experience with Mandriva, but it really shouldn't matter.

You've eliminated the obvious issues. I've tested on Debian 32 and 64
bit and Ubuntu 32 bit. All I can think of at this point is that
something funky must be going on with Mandriva's use of /usr/lib64-style
handling of the 64-bit transition.

Can you send me your CMakeCache.txt ?

Honestly, I'm having a hard time saying myself, since it doesn't reflect
reality as I see it.

I've committed a bunch of changes to trunk just now, one of which sets
CMake 2.6 clearly as the minimum version as the first command rather
than doing it conditionally by platform as we were doing. CMake 2.6 has
been the release version for a fair while now after all. 

(If anyone wants to still support CMake 2.4 / 2.5 it's not hard to
remove the limit again, but I would honestly not recommend it.)
