It seems to me this is another (separate) issue. I assume the OutputIntent being removed is the reason why the podofoimpose output is so much smaller than the PDF/X-3 input? I found "Application Notes for PDF/X Standards" in version 4 (http://pdf.editme.com/files/pdfx-appnotes/PDF-X-Application-Notes_V4-Sep06.pdf); probably not the most recent version. Imposition isn't mentioned, only assembling of multiple files (sections 2.27 and 5.2), which seems to be problematic only if the OutputIntents are different. Do you know of a more recent version?
