Hi Arthur, In the SNMP world there are three different entity types which exchange messages: managers, agents, and informers.
Generally, a client is an SNMP manager and a server is an SNMP agent. A manager generates requests to retrieve and modify management information, receives responses to requests, and/or receives event reports. An agent receives, processes, and responds to requests, and generates event reports. An informer generates informs and receives responses to informs. PoCo-SNMP supports get, getnext, and bulkwalk request types. It also supports both of the SNMP event types, trap and inform. Well actually I haven't completed the informs yet but that should be trivial since this module just wraps SNMP.pm. There was some problems with the download server so I moved the code to http://www.hellyeah.org/~tcaine/poe/snmp/POE-Component-SNMP.tar.gz. This should always point to the latest alpha/beta release until I get something worth putting on the CPAN. I'm really waiting for someone who understands C/XS enough to rip the main loop out of this component and do it right. Any takers? Send me an email off the list if so. :) Cheers, Todd Arthur Bergman wrote: > On tisdag, juli 16, 2002, at 09:09 , Todd Caine wrote: > > > I just released an alpha version of POE::Component::SNMP... > Is this a client or server? > > I don't know the SNMP names but I recall a agent is a client or somesuch.
