This may be fixed in recent commits to CVS, specifically the changes
related to Nancy Grady's problem (also posted to this list).  Could
you check out a bleeding-edge version of POE and see if the problem
still occurs?  http://poe.perl.org/?Where_to_Get_POE has instructions
for acquiring POE via CVS.
