POE 0.9917 is out on the PAUSE, and it should be available at Your Favorite CPAN Mirror shortly. And by "shortly" I mean "when your mirror gets around to synchronizing". Whenever that is.

POE's been quite stable, and this release is mainly bug fixes. So what's new? This release's Awards for Outstanding Contributions go to:

+ Rob Bloodgood! He provided a test case for an error that happened while closing the main window in a Tk application, which made the bug really easy to find and fix. Rob also successfully campaigned for alias_resolve() not throwing fatal errors when the session can't be resolved and assertions are enabled.

+ Matt Sickler! He singlehandedly removed all traces of new() from the POE::Session docs.

+ David Davis! This long-time committer added a get_one() interface to POE::Filter::HTTPD, making it switchable and maybe even improving its ability to support keepalive.

+ Philip Gwyn! Philip hunted down an obscure reference counting bug in sig_chld(). Formerly it was possible to stop a sig_chld() watcher that wasn't active, causing the reference count for that watcher to go negative. Hilarity would ensue. Now clowns everywhere are mourning the loss of this pure comedy gold.

+ Whitney Jackson! Whitney found a race condition where unprocessed lines in a rolled-away log would not be processed. His test case and patch are in this release.

+ Paul Evans! Mr. Evans found an edge case in POE::Component::Server::TCP. $heap->{connected} would not be cleared when a connection's session was shut down. Now it's fixed.

And that's it for this release. Maybe your name will be here next time?

If you're looking for New and Exciting Developments, have a peek at the various POE::Component modules throughout CPAN. I'm surprised by something new nearly every time I look: http://search.cpan.org/search? query=POE%3A%3AComponent&mode=dist

POE::Stage is slowly clawing its way out of the "experimental" graveyard. You should track its progress at http://thirdlobe.com/svn/ poe-stage/trunk/ ... just in case it's behind you.

Thanks for reading, and enjoy!
