You should have permission BTW. I generally try hard to make sure things are group writable.
I need to figure out how to do PGP signing also but that can come later.

In particular, when releases are no longer active, they should absolutely not be moved to an "old" directory, since this will cause tons of extra bandwidth usage and result in a very confusing archive. They should simply be deleted from /www/www.apache.org/dist/ and referenced on the archive.apache.org site.
