Hi,

I am trying to create an excel sheet with some date fields. I am able to get valid
dates into cells, but when I open the file, the data is displayed as a number (number
of days since 1/1/1900). I would like to display the date in another format
(hopefully "dd MMM yy" but I am trying "m/d/yy" at the moment). I have tried to do
this using the HSSFDataFormat class but I still get numbers instead of dates.

Here is the piece of code I am using:

        HSSFWorkbook wb = new HSSFWorkbook();

        HSSFCellStyle cellStyle = wb.createCellStyle();
        cellStyle.setDataFormat(HSSFDataFormat.getFormat("m/d/yy"));

        ....

        row.createCell(index2).setCellValue((Date) date_val);
        row.getCell(index2).setCellStyle(cellStyle);

Does anyone know if there is something obviously wrong with this?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Kind Regards,

Nitin Shah
