2.0 is the NEXT major release version 1.8-dev is a development release of the 2.0 series. So after 2.0 is released 2.0.1 will be the first bug release (if there are bugs ;-)) and 2.1 will be the first development release. This is a legacy from the old sourceforge days and their weird versioning system that was in place at the time...
