Microsoft Excel (or other XLS reader software) is only needed to the client
(not the server)
of your application. POI as an Java API is independant from the Microsoft
software.

If i create an excel file using POI and place it on the server, then for
others to view it, is it required that server have excel installed on it??
The client wud obviously need Mircosoft Excel in order to view that xls
file. Am i correct??
