Hi Karl,
    Even i dont have to process the lsits for now.I jsut have to read the 
file and add some data to the file-do not process the lists using POI.
In the code ,the 
POIFSFileSystem fs  =new POIFSFileSystem(new FileInputStream("c:/excels/xyz.xls"));
line gets executed with out errors.
I get exception in next line when i try creating the workbook.My client is 
Webspehre studio Application Developer(WSAD 5.1),using java,windows 2000 
env.
is the way POI API works is platform dependednt??
