3.0 is a major rewrite of the codebase to use less memory and perform faster. I think Andy placed the benchmarks on some of the extreme cases to save lots o'memory.

Having said that, it's a lil broken at the moment since it's a branch based on about 2.0 code, the current unit tests don't all pass. So having said all that, yes, vague heh.
