Well if you are bug fixing, then of course, you would want the latest ... so "cvs up -r REL_2_BRANCH" is where you should be working on...Many bugfixes have been applied to that branch since 2.5, so you should check the latest first... As Danny said on another mail, patches accepted 24/7 :)
