HWPF Articles/Tutorial/Examples?

May I know if the HWPF still in the "early development"? What are the 
features it supports? How can POI-HWPF creates Table of Contents, Cross 
References and etc?

From the Internet, there seem to have many articles which describe the MS 
Excel manipulation using POI. I managed to read one short MS Word example in 
the recent JDJ magazine. Can you point me other articles/tutorials/examples 
of MS Word manipulation using POI?

I wish to have a look on MS Word 97 format, but http://wotsit.org mentioned 
in http://jakarta.apache.org/poi/hwpf/docoverview.html seem to be not valid?
