Well, if you use your own build procedure you are on your own. Instead you should checkout the complete POI source tree from the CVS repository, go to the top-level directory and run "ant jar". This will create three JAR files in the build/dist subdirectory. The one with "scratchpad" in its name contains the HWPF classes. Hopefully this helps.

What I did was go and download all java files one by one! I start to believe that there was a much easier way....
Thanks again and sorry for the invonvenience but there isn't a comprehensive readme for people who are not experienced with CVS, ant etc etc
