Actually, by retains I meant "get it from". As Andy clarified
in another post, formatting is stored per workbook, and 
formats are applied to cells or columns by associating 
the "global" index of the format record with the element
that is being formatted. 

Thus ColumnInfoRecords have a format associated with 
them which has an index. IMO, this is the index that, if 
available, should be used for the cell record by default 
instead of associating the default(?) format record for the
cell everytime.

yes, yes, yes :)
Also I think Nick Burch has a nightly build setup so if 
you can search for a previous post, you should get the url
for the nightly builds. That would enable you to get the
patched source as early as tommorrow morning.
