If you're on windows you can get cygwin (cygwin.com). It is a bash
shell for Windows. Moreover you can download all the wonderful Linux
command line tools (and even X stuff)! Most importantly, you can get
the best editor ever -- vi (emacs is a cult not an editor). If you want
a GUI then you can get gvim.sf.net (graphical vi) for windows. On OS X
you can use Fink and Fink Commander to get all the same except natively
compiled. And of course all of this stuff generally comes with Linux.

Thanks Peter! I managed it with NoteTab Light since I happened to have a
download of it available and it did the job. But I'll check out jEdit and
Textpad. Do any of these have the ability to apply a CVS patch to some Java
source?

I use Textpad (Windows only, and requires $40 license to avoid
annoyance at launch) and jEdit (free and it does a lot of IDE like
stuff) as editors. Textpad is faster, but jEdit is written in Java,
has more features and works on all platforms.

Hi Amol,
Funny you should say that -- I just tried going to the CVS site and got
"ViewCVS is down. Sorry, viewcvs is down due to flooding until further
notice." Hurricane Emily? Is there another place I can get the patched
source? The source I do have is "poi-src-3.0-alpha1-20050704.zip" which
doesn't have your patch.
I did get your patch from Bugzilla, but I don't know any easy
way to apply
it. In fact, simply trying to edit sheet.java with notepad.exe
doesn't work
too well, presumably since sheet.java is using the unix convention of a
single linefeed (x'0a') as a line terminator instead of the Windows crlf
(x'0d0a') convention. Need another editor I guess; any suggestions?

The fix was committed to CVS today, so if you
have checked out the source anytime after noon, you already
have the 'patched' version. (The reason I added the patch to
the issue anyway was in case it was desired to reverse the
changes due to the patch...)
