The setup here involves several MX servers, each with their own instance of policyd. There is another server which has the mysql server that all instances of policyd use. Recently, I've been having a problem with that server losing its network interface for a while (usually while I'm at home).
>From what I can see, when the database server comes back up, policyd will sometimes stop. I haven't established how long the server needs to be down for this to happen. What I do see, though, is that when policyd fails, is happens right as the server is coming back online. It also doesn't always happen. After a four and a half hour downtime, policyd on all of the mx servers stopped. Then, after a two hour downtime, policyd only stopped on one of the servers. Another point of interest is that policyd on one of the servers yesterday put itself into DEBUG mode right before failing. I was not on the server at the time, so I don't think it's anything that I did. Here are some debug logs from immediately before it stopped.
