Given: that I LOVE polipo, ELinks and Links.
Problem: would it possible to let polipo become much more [configurably]
restrictive by design in the packets it accepts?
Rationale: if the proxy is known to be [configurably] capable of impeding
and circumscribing this, that, and a third thing, I could--tell me if I am
mistaken--lie/fib better with the browser [which is behind the proxy] ...
with the string I am sending, I mean. That is: a *watcher* would have the
possibilities to stealthy probe the browser limited, hopefully significantly.
There is no better browser than ELinks IMO, and I would use it
even on Silicon Graphics' hardware. Ditto for Links in other
contexts.
On the other hand, compose [in the mathematical sense] with the fact that I
am using polipo, that I never use JavaScript [in fact I don't even build the
engine for it], that I nearly never accept cookies, and so on.
Well, it doesn't let me too much choice on the string I can send for the
browser I pretend to use ... I am correct? On the contrary, it also helps to
identify me easily if I exaggerate. While I would like to send some anodyne
string. (To be recognized as behind polipo bothers me less.)
Example:
# -- filters
# --
# -- These values set some general URL independent (and very agressive
# -- filters); enabling some of them can speed up the whole proxy! e.g.
# -- filtering banners by size avoids a lot additional URL patternmatching 1|0
$FILTER_SCRIPT= 1; # -- remove _all_ JavaScript? (not recomended,
# -- disable disable in browser instead).
$FILTER_ONLOAD= 1; # -- remove 'onload' and 'onunload' events?
$FILTER_POPUP= 1; # -- yes this is the popup killer!
$FILTER_STATUS= 1; # -- JavaScript that overwrites the statusbar
# -- text.
$FILTER_SIZE= 1; # -- remove images with known banner sizes.
borrowed from yafp. (There are m others to look at.)
Cheers,
/Roy
