I have the impression that folks at the tor project no longer recommend
using the Polipo proxy with tor now that they have put together a package
called the Tor Browser Bundle and because Firefox supports using a socks
proxy natively. Apparently, and unfortunately in my opinion, they are not
interested in making tor accessible to other programs regardless of the fact
that some of these other programs may need an http proxy connection to tor.
Be that as it may, I am inclined to make use of a proxy such as Polipo and I
would like to see what your recommendations would be for using it with tor
alone. Furthermore, since Polipo is no longer bundled with tor in any way,
it would seem to me that it may be advisable to download and install it
separately in order to take advantage of any changes in its code relating to
security or efficiency. Does any of this sound reasonable to others here?
Incidentally, I have a 64-bit Windows 7 OS on my main PC, but I have other
machines to consider as well. Thanks.
