This actually makes perfect sense if you specifically design the
browser to offload SSL to the proxy. The setup assumes the user
controls the proxy and the link between the browser and the proxy. One
proxy per PC used by a single person at a time is supposed to guarantee
that. Assuming no internal abuse, a family should also be able to
provide those guaranties.

The overriding idea is "distributed browser". Because modern browsers
are so fast-changing and so complicated they may as well be closed
source. By separating key functionality - networking itself - and
"setting it in stone" as well as putting a control panel onto it, we can
regain some control of our lives.
