As for Ratzinger's pretensions to being an intellectual and a devotee of reason -- what could be more absurd.  If Ratinzger truly respected reason, he would find it necessary as a matter of intellectual honesty to abandon all the superstitious mumbo jumbo and claptrap which has elevated him to his current position as a bogus authority on human and social affairs.  I can't think of a single creative or useful insight that has come from the mind of Ratzinger.  Theology generally produces very little in the way of interesting knowledge.  Theology usually is a form of sterile wankery.  Smart people as a rule do not do theology -- they occupy their minds with more substantive matters.

VMANN:  david ray griffin does all right in theology, with reference to whiteheads process oriented worldview as well as to the political and "conspiratorial" realms.
