I am a 42 year old political virgin, meaning that up until this year, I have NEVER been interested in politics, in who won or lost, or in voting. This year, though, this campaign...I don't know, it's like I hit political puberty and now i see it all in a new light. I can just feel it...this election has more riding on the outcome than we can possibly fathom. So, in having finally registered and deciding to cast my vote into the sea of votes, it became time for me to make a choice. I listened to the VP debate, I have listened to friends on both sides and their opinions, and through it all I have come to an epiphany regarding what is so often referred to as "being on the fence"....
I believe that the only way for a person to "be on the fence" is for them to NOT know themselves sufficiently. What I have discovered about the process of deciding who to vote for is that we're looking for the person who best represents our personal values, desires, and vision. Ah, so then if you don't KNOW what your own personal values really are (firmly), if you don't have those values prioritized, and if you live more in the now than having a vision for what lays ahead, then there is a very good chance that you will be unable to find a match among the candidates. So what i believe then that a "fencer" needs to do is take some time to write down what's important to you, and in the order that they matter most. Then compare the candidates to that list and make your decision that way. There will never be a candidate that is a perfect match, thus the need to prioritize your values and beliefs. Whoever hits the most of your top 5 or whatever, that's probably the person who should get your vote. No more 'on the fence'! I did a blog post on the topic as well if you're interested in the full version of the idea. http://www.dougboude.com/blog/1/2008/10/The-42-Year-Old-Political-Virgin.cfm Just my two cents. ________________________________________________ for the best apology five dollars can buy, visit www.ItsALLMYFuckingFault.com --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ Thanks for being part of "PoliticalForum" at Google Groups.
