Thank You, Rand Paul

Thank Senator Rand Paul for the defeat of Trump/Ryancare.
Americans who have even a smidgen of reverence for liberty need to thank Senator Rand Paul for almost single-handedly defeating the GOP version of the government healthcare debacle known as Obamacare. As bad as Obamacare is, the Republican version was even WORSE. Dr. Paul explains:
"The Senate Obamacare bill does not repeal Obamacare. Not even close.
"In fact, the Senate GOP bill codifies and likely expands many aspects of Obamacare.
"The Senate Obamacare-lite bill codifies a federal entitlement to insurance. With the Senate GOP bill, Republicans, for the first time, will signal that they favor a key aspect of Obamacare – federal taxpayer funding of private insurance purchases.
"The bill will transfer billions of dollars to people who will then transfer billions of dollars to insurance companies. What a great business model – encourage the federal government to use taxpayer money to buy a private company’s product. Great business model, that is, if you are Big Insurance. Remarkable.
"The Senate Obamacare-lite bill does what the Democrats forgot to do – appropriate billions for Obamacare’s cost-sharing reductions, aka subsidies. Really? Republicans are going to fund Obamacare subsidies that the Democrats forgot to fund?"
And while conservative pundits and talk show hosts are excoriating House Speaker Paul Ryan for this monstrosity, never forget that President Trump did everything within his power to bully the senate into passing the stupid thing. But he couldn't budge Rand Paul.
Now Mitch McConnell says the senate will vote on a straight repeal of Obamacare. Why didn't he do that in the beginning? Because the truth is the GOP wants socialized medicine as much as Democrats. The two parties are simply fighting over who gets credit for it.
No matter what happens from this point out, never forget that Senator Rand Paul was the man who wouldn't be bullied or bribed and almost single-handedly saved America from the government healthcare bill from Hell.
